Position Summary:
We are seeking an Expert Feller to work on multiple project sites in the Napa Valley and surrounding areas. This position will work to safely conduct hazardous tree removals in various terrains.
Candidate must have the experience and drive to team-build, lead and work between three 3-person crews to position each individual for success with provided detailed work plans and top-notch equipment.
Duties to include:
Uses axes or chainsaws to fell trees using knowledge of tree characteristics and cutting techniques to control direction of fall and minimize tree damage.
Maintains and repairs chainsaws and other equipment, cleaning, oiling and greasing equipment, and sharpening equipment properly.
Uses proper felling technique
Appraises trees for certain characteristics, such as twist, rot, heavy limbs, and gauges amount and direction of lean, in order to determine how to control the direction of the tree’s fall
Provide ongoing safety, productivity and professional growth training.
Clears brush from work areas and escape routes.
Cuts saplings and other trees from direction of fall.
Determines position, direction, and depth of cuts to be made and placement of wedges or jacks
Saws back cuts leaving sufficient sound wood to control direction of fall
Stops saw engines, pulls cutting bars from cuts.
Trims off the tops and limbs of trees, using chainsaws, de-limbers or axes.
May be required to operate a skidder to pull down lodged trees during the felling process.
Measures felled trees and cut into logs
Operates equipment to load logs onto trucks or trailers using equipment designed for the operation.
Manage and own the accountability of securing all work zones, this includes: safeguarding infrastructure, shielding company equipment, necessary obstruction of streets, walkways or driveways; setting up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. and other activities to protect property, employees and the public.
Ensure proper maintenance, preparation, supplies and operations of all tools and equipment used by your team.
Prepare your team for environments that include: considerable temperature variations (hot, cold, wet, dry conditions), rough terrain, steep ground, exposure to natural elements (irritating plants, poison oak, blackberries, ticks, rattlesnakes, biting spiders, stinging wasps, hornets, dust, smoke, fire, etc.)
Minimum requirements:
3-4 years’ experience in Tree Care industry
Must be ISA Certified Arborist
Must be TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional
Must be QLCA with a verifiable minimum of 18 months proven work history in utility lineclearance
Must be bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish
Must be committed to “Guaranteed Safety” in all decisions and actions
Must have a valid CDL, Class B w/Air Brakes
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be proficient in climbing and rigging out 50” + DBH tree removals
Must be proficient in felling on target 50” + DBH trees
Must be proficient in operating 60’ + aerial lift trucks, rigging out 50” + DBH tree removals
Must pass full-panel drug screen
Must pass in-depth criminal background check
Must pass in-depth skill assessment for Climbing, Felling, Aerial Lift, Driving and Equipment Operations
