Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Sawyer to lead our team of chainsaw operators in forestry management operations. In this role, you will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and training to the team while planning and organizing daily work assignments to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion of tasks. Your expertise will be instrumental in conducting on-site assessments, identifying potential hazards, and implementing safe tree cutting strategies.
As the Lead Sawyer, you will directly participate in chainsaw operation and tree cutting tasks, adhering to strict safety protocols. Additionally, you will monitor equipment maintenance and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Your meticulous record-keeping will contribute to effective work documentation and reporting. Duties to include:
Lead and supervise a team of chainsaw operators, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
Plan and organize daily work assignments, ensuring that tasks are completed according to schedule and within budget.
Conduct on-site assessments to determine the scope and complexity of tree cutting projects, identifying potential hazards and developing appropriate strategies.
Operate chainsaws and other equipment necessary for tree cutting, ensuring adherence to safety protocols at all times.
Direct and assist team members in the proper techniques of tree cutting, including felling, limbing, bucking, and removal of debris.
Monitor and maintain chainsaws and other equipment, ensuring they are in proper working condition and promptly reporting any malfunctions or damage.
Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new equipment or techniques related to chainsaw operation and tree cutting.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
Monitor and enforce adherence to environmental regulations, including proper disposal of tree waste and protection of sensitive areas.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily reports, equipment usage, and any incidents or accidents that occur.
Assist in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of new chainsaw operators as necessary.
Minimum requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a chainsaw operator, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Ability to lead and supervise a team of chainsaw operators, providing guidance, support, and training.
Proficiency in planning and organizing daily work assignments, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
In-depth knowledge and proficiency in operating chainsaws and related equipment for tree cutting, with a strong emphasis on safety protocols.
